From the airport, arriving guests may rent a car or take a taxi or shuttle to the hotel. Note that taxi drivers may still know the hotel as the Ramada San Juan. Also, the 10-story hotel may still be marked with a large Ramada sign. From the hotel, guests can take taxis, buses, or rental cars to Old San Juan and nearby beaches. Taxi service can be expensive but is often the easiest way to get around. Bus service is slower but inexpensive; there is a bus stop in front of the hotel. Rental cars are the best way to explore the island, but drivers should note that in Old San Juan, the narrow streets are congested and parking can be hard to find. Valet parking and self-parking are available at the hotel for a surcharge. Car rentals are available online.

What to expect: The hotel’s modest size and reasonable price make it a family-friendly place. An intimate lobby has a seating area with potted plants, woven baskets, and a spiral staircase winding up to meeting rooms on the second floor. The friendly staff is bilingual. Behind the hotel are a pool and patio just steps from the Atlantic and a small beach. Amenity highlights: The hotel’s biggest draws are its views—either lagoon and boulevard or endless ocean—and its central location on Ashcroft Avenue, lined with shops and restaurants. Condado Lagoon is across the street, and great city beaches are within a mile. Insider tip: Although the hotel has its own beach, swimming is safer a half-mile down the street at Condado Beach or a mile east at Ocean Park. Just west of the hotel is Ciudad Capital Plaza, a small oceanfront park with concrete and marble benches, a fountain, and public art--a pleasant place to read a book or watch the sea.
